TV Mechanic

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled TV mechanic to join our team, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our television equipment and systems. As a TV mechanic, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing a wide range of broadcast equipment, from cameras and switchers to audio and video systems. Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair television equipment and systems, including cameras, switchers, and audio and video systems, to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues with broadcast equipment, using specialized tools and software to identify and resolve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure seamless integration of technical systems and equipment, providing expert technical support and guidance as needed.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize equipment failures and reduce downtime.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements in television production, attending industry conferences and workshops to expand your knowledge and skills.
  • Provide training and support to junior technicians and other staff members, sharing your expertise and helping to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as engineering and production, to ensure that technical systems and equipment meet the needs of the business.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of special projects, such as equipment upgrades and system migrations.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and upgrades, using specialized software and databases to track and analyze technical data.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working as a TV mechanic or in a related technical role, with a strong background in television production and broadcast engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of television equipment and systems, including cameras, switchers, audio and video systems, and transmission technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with production teams, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong focus on attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard software and systems, such as broadcast automation and asset management systems.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical data and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment, and to work at heights and in confined spaces.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with IP-based broadcast systems and technologies, such as SMPTE 2110 and NMOS.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices, with the ability to implement secure technical systems and protocols.
  • Familiarity with agile project management methodologies and tools, such as Scrum and Jira.
  • Certification in a related technical field, such as broadcast engineering or electronics engineering.
