Build Reusable Automation that Matters
3C is seeking a hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer to build reusable Terraform modules and shared Infrastructure as Code (IaC) capabilities for cloud, hybrid-cloud, container, virtualization, and enterprise infrastructure environments.
This is not a role focused on one-off deployments. You will help create high-quality, reusable Terraform modules and module catalogs that teams can discover, consume, trust, and operate—improving speed, consistency, security, compliance, and maintainability across customer environments. You will help turn infrastructure automation into a trusted, reusable delivery capability—not a collection of one-off scripts—so customer teams can deploy secure, compliant environments with greater confidence and less rework.
You will work with cloud and infrastructure technologies including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), depending on program and customer needs. You will partner with engineers, architects, security teams, operations teams, and customer stakeholders to turn complex infrastructure requirements into practical, reusable automation.
Why 3C
3C is a growing technology services company dedicated to applying technology in practical, thoughtful ways that improve customer mission outcomes. We help organizations navigate complex cloud, hybrid-infrastructure, automation, integration, governance, data, and enterprise-technology challenges.
Our work is guided by the 3 Cs: Customers, Communication, and Collaboration. We start with mission needs and build technology that solves real problems; we communicate clearly and proactively so teams can make better decisions; and we collaborate across engineering, operations, security, architecture, and customer teams to deliver results that last.
This is an opportunity to do substantive technical work with visible impact. You will help build reusable Terraform modules and shared automation capabilities that make infrastructure more secure, reliable, maintainable, and easier for customer teams to use—not simply work through a queue of isolated tickets.
As an early member of a small, high-accountability team, you will have real ownership and direct influence over engineering standards, automation patterns, technical documentation, and delivery practices. You will work closely with leadership, technical peers, and customer stakeholders, with far less hierarchy and fewer handoffs than in a large enterprise.
For the right person, there is significant growth potential as 3C expands: broader automation or platform ownership, technical leadership, solution design, customer engagement, and mentoring opportunities. This is a strong fit for a self-starter who obsesses over quality, values clear communication and collaboration, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and wants to help build a company known for excellent work and trusted customer relationships.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, version, publish, document, and maintain reusable Terraform modules and module catalogs.
Build shared IaC patterns for cloud, hybrid-cloud, container, virtualization, networking, security, identity, observability, and enterprise-platform services.
Establish practical standards for module interfaces, input validation, documentation, semantic versioning, compatibility, releases, deprecation, and lifecycle management.
Implement automated validation and testing, including unit and integration testing, policy compliance checks, security/configuration validation, and CI/CD quality gates.
Publish and maintain modules through a registry, artifact repository, shared module library, or comparable distribution mechanism.
Embed security, governance, logging, encryption, tagging, monitoring, least-privilege, auditability, and operational requirements into reusable infrastructure patterns.
Work closely with technical and customer stakeholders to identify reusable solutions, resolve implementation issues, and improve infrastructure delivery.
Produce clear technical documentation, examples, reference patterns, and troubleshooting guidance that other teams can use confidently.
Requirements
5+ years of relevant experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure automation, systems engineering, site reliability engineering, or similar technical roles.
Hands-on experience designing and supporting infrastructure using Terraform, including reusable modules, shared libraries, or module catalogs used across multiple teams, projects, applications, or environments.
Experience developing automation across more than one infrastructure ecosystem, including cloud, hybrid cloud, containers, virtualization, or shared enterprise platforms.
Experience with semantic versioning, registry publication, automated testing, input validation, policy compliance checks, documentation, and CI/CD practices for reusable IaC modules.
Strong understanding of Terraform modules, variables, outputs, providers, dependencies, remote state, environment separation, version control, and change management.
Experience with Git-based engineering practices, pull requests, peer review, and CI/CD pipelines.
Production experience with at least one of AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound technical judgment, and a track record of delivering high-quality work independently in a remote environment.
An industry-recognized IaC, configuration-as-code, DevOps, or cloud certification appropriate to the candidate's platform experience, plus one or more cloud-platform certifications.
Preferred Experience
Ansible or comparable configuration-management and orchestration automation.
Federal, defense, public-sector, healthcare, financial-services, or other highly regulated environments.
NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, RMF, Zero Trust, CIS Benchmarks, STIGs, or comparable security/compliance frameworks.
Kubernetes, OpenShift, VMware, Nutanix, private cloud, enterprise networking, identity/access management, observability, or shared platform services.
Policy-as-code, cloud governance, cloud security, or automated infrastructure-control validation.
Active or current U.S. Government security clearance, public trust, or favorable suitability determination is a plus.
